Black Tiger Tee from Human Made: Notes From Someone Who Owns Too Many

We’re Human Made. Tokyo. NIGO started it in 2010 and the whole idea hasn’t changed much since. Old stuff, made better. Workwear, military surplus, vintage graphics from Japan and America, rebuilt with cotton you can actually feel.

The Tiger Graphic New T-Shirt in black is one of ours. It’s not the loudest thing we make. It’s probably the one I reach for most.

Okay So What Is It

Black cotton tee. Crew neck. Tiger printed on it.

Regular fit, which means it doesn’t hug your ribs and it doesn’t hang off you like a bedsheet either. Mid-weight cotton. You can wear it alone in July and it won’t go see-through, and it holds up under a jacket in October without turning you into a sweaty mess.

Some runs have the tiger big across the back with a small mark on the chest. Others put it front and center. Depends which drop you catch.

The print sits flat. That’s the part people notice when they pick it up. Cheap graphic tees have that rubbery plasticky layer you can peel with a fingernail. This one doesn’t.

Wearing It

I’m not going to pretend there’s a science to a black tee.

Jeans, sneakers, out the door. That’s most days.

But a few things I’ve figured out:

A Human Made Hoodie worn open over the top works better than zipping it. The graphic shows, the layers read. Same story with a Human Made Jacket, just don’t button it to the chin.

The Human Made 6PANEL LINEN CAP Black is the lazy answer and it’s a good one. Same color family, same brand language, no thinking required.

If you’re already into CPFM, the CPFM We’re Good! Cherry Hoodie lives in a similar neighborhood. Different graphic, same instinct. The kind of thing that looks right next to a Human Made T shirt without either one trying.

And honestly, a plain black tee is the most useful thing in a closet. Every Human Made piece we make starts from that idea. Useful first. Interesting second.

Washing It, Because I’ve Ruined Tees Before

Learn from my mistakes.

Inside out. Cold water. That’s 90% of it.

Skip the dryer. I mean it. Heat is what cracks prints and shrinks cotton, and you’ll notice it around wash number fifteen when the tiger starts looking like a smudge. Hang it. Lay it flat on a towel. Whatever works in your space.

Wait a day before the first wash. Sounds fussy. It isn’t. Gives the ink time to settle.

No bleach. No fabric softener. Softener coats the cotton and dulls the print over time.

Iron? Inside out, or put a cloth over it, or just steam it. Never touch the iron to the graphic directly.

Does it run small?
Regular fit. Between sizes and want room, go up. Want it snug, stay where you are.

Am I going to shrink it?
Only if you use heat. Cold wash plus air dry keeps it where it started.

What’s the tiger about?
NIGO pulls from vintage Japanese art a lot. The tiger turns up across different Human Made pieces. Not a mascot exactly, more a recurring character.

Can I just dry clean it?
You can. You don’t need to. It’s cotton.

Is this going to sell out?
Human Made runs seasonal collections and specific colorways move. The Tiger Graphic T-Shirt shows up in things like SS26, but once that run’s gone it’s gone.

How do I dress it up a little?
Dark trousers. Something with structure over the top. Keep the shoes clean. The tee handles the rest.
